Personal Injury Questions

How much does a personal injury lawyer cost?

Nothing upfront. We work on a contingency-fee basis — our fee comes from the settlement only if we win your case. Initial consultations are always free.

What compensation can I recover?

Depending on your case, you may be entitled to medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, future care costs, and rehabilitation. For catastrophic injuries, amounts can be substantial.

How long do I have to file a claim?

In most cases, two years from the date of the accident under Ontario’s Limitations Act. Some claims (against municipalities) have much shorter deadlines.

Will my case go to court?

Most personal injury cases settle out of court through negotiation. However, we’re always prepared to take your case to trial if the insurer refuses a fair settlement.

What should I do after an accident?

Seek medical attention, report the incident, document everything with photos, collect witness information, and speak with a lawyer before dealing with any insurance company.

Can I still recover if I was partly at fault?

Yes. Ontario follows comparative negligence — your damages are reduced by your percentage of fault, but you can still recover.
